Autumn- Winter 2024 Round-Up

Happy New Year everyone!!! I would like to take some time updating what has been happening at the club since the last post. Our Juniors once again participated in the Heart of England Foil Open. This new fixture has been a God-Send for fencing in the region helping to expose our younger fencers to more higher standards that they might not otherwise face at the West midlands BYC’s.

Meanwhile Tomas Kradic got Bronze at the Elite Epee Manchester in November.

We also had a good showing once again at the Cocks Moore Epee championships, our Epee section at the club growing in confidence. Daniel also took is Epee Level 2 Refereeing exam which substantially improves our refereeing level at the club regarding Epee (And here’s me thinking all you had to do when refereeing epee is learn to count to 15 and keep your eyes peeled). Well done Daniel!!

In December SCFC also put forward its youngest ever team for the West Midlands Presidents Cup. Daniel (Epee), Ellie (Foil) and Giovanni (Sabre?!) took part in the yearly mixed weapon/Mixed Sex teams competition to take on a number of very experienced teams from across the region. They ran many of best of the West Mids teams very close, sometimes only to within one or two points. There was apparently great team spirit from our young hedgehogs. A special thanks goes to Giovanni for participating as our sabreur, which the eagle eyed amongst you will have spotted is not a discipline has much competitive experience recently. Nonetheless he acquitted himself admirably.

Later in December Ben was selected for the West Midlands foil team at the Cadet Winton Tournament, where out of the regions the West midlands was placed 2nd out of the whole of the the UK. Our last fencer who was selected for the Winton cup some of you may well recall was Imogen Blackley for women’s foil some time ago 2017. Well done Ben for representing SCFC at this long running tournament.
