BYC and Regional Roundup 2025

Our fencers once again participated in the Senior and British Youth Championship qualifiers, with the standard being particularly high.

In February Daniel Bullock won Silver in the U16 Men’s Epee.

In March Daniel also competed in the Senior Regional Epee, alongside his father Ian (the longest running SCFC member), Charles Benke, the redoubtable Tomas Kazik, and newcomer Andrew Cliff. Tomas Kazik won Gold and Charles Benke Bronze, cementing Sutton Coldfield’s recent regional dominance in Epee. Tomasz Losinkski who joined our Junior section many years ago but fences at Warwick Uni, participated in the Senior Men’s Sabre and won a Bronze on behalf of Sutton Coldfield. A blast from the past was the resurfacing of the Repechage competition format by the organisers that allows fencers who failed to meet qualifying standards by a small margin to continue to the next round. Needless to say it was met with mixed views…

Charles and Tomas after an interesting day.

The next day it was the BYC Regional Foil. Miles, Max and Percy fought well in the their respective categories against tough opposition this year. Kinga Pawlowicz and Emily Childs narrowly missed out on medals in tough L8 DE’s but have qualified once again for the National Championships that will take place in Sheffield. Ellie Lock took Bronze in the Women’s U18’s after a tough day where they merged the men’s and women’s fields together. ( A shout-out goes to Rowena – Ellie’s mother who babysat my car while waiting for the RAC to arrive. My Breaks failed that day, allowing me to attend to the fencers) The surprising win was Melissa Lazar who took Bronze in the Girls U10. Well done Melissa!
